Automobile accident doesn’t stop Preston woman’s quest to become Miss USA

1 Jul –One would think a chance to represent the state of Idaho in the upcoming Miss USA Pageant would put a young on top of the world, and they would be right, except sometimes our world crashes around us.

That’s what happened to Claira Hollingsworth, 22, of Preston, who captured the Miss Idaho title in September 2014 and has been on a quest to wear the national crown.


All of that nearly ended in a heartbeat, however, in Sacramento, California, on June 6 when the Jeep Wrangler convertible she and three others were riding in overturned twice. Two of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle while Hollingsworth was nearly trapped beneath, suffering a broken left hand and a severe contusion on her right leg. It could not have happened at a worse time, but despite it all, she has been very philosophical about the ordeal.

“I still have a few weeks to go and I feel really strong and am looking forward to doing the best I can under the circumstances,” she said.
